EU Biocidal Products Committee Adopts Two Opinions on Active Substances and Six on Union Authorisations

The Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) meeting was held in Helsinki, Finland, in February 2025. The meeting addressed the renewal evaluations of multiple active substances and the authorization of biocidal products. Below are the key discussions and outcomes:

1. Renewal of Active Substances

• Dazomet (Tetrahydro-3,5-dimethyl-1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thione): Product Type 8)(wood preservatives)
• IPBC (3-Iodo-2-propynyl butyl carbamate): Product Type 8

2. Authorization of Biocidal Products

• A biocidal product family containing Active chlorine released from sodium hypochlorite: Product Type 2 (disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals)
• A biocidal product family containing Propan-1-ol/Propan-2-ol: Product Types 2 and 4 (food and feed area)
• A biocidal product family containing Propan-1-ol/Propan-2-ol: Product Types 1 (human hygiene), 2, and 4
• A biocidal product containing hydrogen peroxide: Product Types 2, 3 (veterinary hygiene), and 4
• A biocidal product family containing C(M)IT/MIT (3:1); glutaraldehyde: Product Types 2 and 4
• A biocidal product family containing Glutaral (Glutaraldehyde): Product Types 6 (preservatives for products during storage), 11 (preservatives for liquid-cooling and processing systems), and 12 (slimicides)

Follow-up Arrangements

Although the renewal of seven anticoagulant rodenticide substances (Product Type 14) was discussed, related opinions are expected to be published later this year. The European Commission and member states will make final decisions based on BPC’s opinions. The next BPC meeting is scheduled for May 12–16, 2025.
