from CIRS by

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) plans to expand its Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) by adding six substances from January 6, 2025, taking the total to 248. Octamethyltrisiloxane is among the new additions.

The Member State Committee (MSC), in its recent meeting, also discussed prioritization for the Authorization List and unanimously approved an evaluation of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol along with three compliance check decisions.

The latest substance of very high concern (SVHC) list can be accessed here.

    The details are as follows:

Businesses handling products with SVHCs should note:

    1. A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) must be provided when selling standalone SVHCs.

    2. An SDS is required if an SVHC forms ≥0.1% of a mixture.

    3. Detailed information must be shared within 45 days if a product contains >0.1% by weight of an SVHC.

    4. If a product contains a single SVHC >0.1% by weight and is exported over 1 ton annually, ECHA must be notified within six months.

    5. Products with >0.1% SVHC must be reported to SCIP (this started from January 5, 2021), as per the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD).

CIRS will continue to track and share SVHC-related updates promptly.
